Wish your Discord server was more active? In this guide, we’re going to take a look at different ways you can increase your server activity once again, and provide your server members with a great community to participate in!
It must have an active Discord server for its success; People may start leaving your server if they find that the server is not as active as they would like.
That’s why you should aim to make your server as active as possible, but don’t worry, in this guide we’re going to take a look at some of the best ways to do that!
We’ll also look at some great techniques for sparking good discussions and bringing in more activity, so let’s get started!
Get Engaged With Your Server’s Members
To cultivate a great atmosphere, you’ll need to keep your members engaged by sparking new conversations, joining in on discussions and overall, facilitating a great community.
This can be done by asking questions, reacting to messages and overall, making members feel welcome to participate in discussions. You could also format messages in order to help them stand out during discussions too, such as adding aesthetic text, or formatted text. I’ve written an article on this if you want to know more about various Discord text tricks you can use during discussions, it might be a useful reference!
To do so, you should encourage members to take part and remind everyone that they’re encouraged to partake in discussions. You’ll be surprised at how effective this strategy is!
Ask Question of the Day/Week
- You can ask “Question of the Day” (or Week, if your server is already active enough), where you can ask your members questions related to the domain in which your server is located. For example, if you have a dedicated gaming server, the question one day might be, “What are your thoughts on [insert game here]?”. Or you can ask him about gaming-related news that has been in the news recently and his views on it.
There are also poll bots that allow you to ask a question, and the bot will allow members to react to a question, with each response representing an answer. It may not spark many conversations, but it can certainly help start everything!
This is another great technique to promote discussions in your server and some interesting conversations between members! Who knows, what will be a great conversation after trying it out?
- You can also host weekly (or daily, if you prefer!) events in your server’s voice channels, where members can gather and discuss news together.
You can also have a music bot, where users can request to play music in a sound channel. You can even order virtual food or coffee, which is a lot of fun too, and I wrote another article on how to order Discord fast food! This can be a great way to foster a sense of community and encourage participation, while it’s also a lot of fun. By hosting events, your server will naturally get more members because they want to invite their friends to join in.
Hosting events will create more community spirit among server members, and help them get to know each other better. For example, on many gaming servers, you’ll see lots of events hosted each week, with a wide variety of events on offer. From quizzes to tournaments and everything in between, it’s important to host events that cater to as many people as possible, and then see which ones are the most popular or successful and work from there.
- The bots are also great to help get everything started! There are a whole variety of entertainment bots that allow you to watch YouTube videos, request music, make polls, and more.
There are bots to help you create memes, react with GIFs, and more. To find these bots, you can try looking through the various bot directories available, including Disforge. You can also find more Discord bot lists in this article.
Overall, bots can help automate a lot of the tedious activities associated with running a server or reacting to messages. For example, when you want to respond with a GIF, instead of searching it on GIPHY or Tenor, you can use a Discord bot that automatically searches GIPHY for the correct GIF when a certain keyword is provided. searches.
Adding a bot to your server is relatively easy, all you have to do is find a bot you want to add (see the link to the bot and server directory above) and then click the invite link. You then need to confirm which server you want your bot to connect to, and you’re done!
Advertise your server on the server listing
- You can also try advertising your server on the listing, which will help bring more members to your server. This will naturally help you to increase your server’s subscriber count and showcase your server to the world.
By doing this, you’ll have more members included, which over time will lead to more active servers. The more members you have on your server, the more conversations to start with and the more activity there will be!
To advertise your server on the listing, make sure you have a description of your server that describes the benefits of connecting to your server. You’ll also need some visuals of your server’s logo, etc.
Welcome New Members
- A great way to foster conversation among new members is to welcome them when they join your server. There are also bots that automatically welcome members to the server, although they lack the personal touch that a moderator would bring up with a message.
Welcoming new members with a message will help them feel more welcome in the server, and they will be more likely to join the conversation or respond to your initial message. You can also create a custom channel where new members can be welcomed as well; More information about this channel and other types of channels can be found in my guide on Discord channel ideas.

You will also need to make sure that you keep promoting your server to gain members, and naturally, the influx of new members will help maintain an active server.
